Accelerating the energy transition

AWS Energy & Utilities allows organizations to harness unlimited, secure cloud computing resources, while its elasticity lets you respond to the exponential volumes of data and rapidly changing conditions you must address. AWS Cloud can spin up and down in seconds, enabling organizations to respond to dynamic requirements and provide the processing power to introduce new and innovative programs and increase the speed of decision making.

Through cloud technologies and new data-driven solutions based on advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), internet of things (IoT) and edge computing, high-performance computing (HPC), and autonomous machines supported by next gen connectivity solutions, AWS is supporting organizations with:

Data management

Collect, store, and analyze vast amounts of data across your operations with the cloud. Autonomous machines improve the speed and accuracy of data collection with little human intervention. Quickly access insights through advanced technologies like AI and ML that help organizations optimize operations and drive efficiency.

Demand forecasting

IoT devices can help monitor and manage energy usage in real-time enabling organizations to respond to changes quickly and efficiently. HPC can facilitate future energy demand forecasting helping energy producers plan for tomorrow’s energy needs.

Emissions monitoring

With AWS cloud and IoT, and other direct observation technologies (including a selection of pre-integrated 3rd party options for satellite, airplane, UAV, and stationary continuous monitoring systems) energy companies can have visibility into measured emissions alongside operational data allowing them to quickly act when incidents occur and drive cleaner operations.

Predictive maintenance & production optimization

Through the cloud and technologies like ML and IoT, organizations are developing modern workflows for applications like predictive maintenance and what-if scenario planning, to improve the operational efficiency of industrial assets and field equipment.

Renewable energy development

Cloud technologies are being used to manage renewable energy systems, such as solar and wind farms, enabling organizations to monitor and optimize energy production. IoT, drones and other edge devices paired with next-gen connectivity help organizations monitor their wind and solar fleets remotely and make optimizations from miles away.

Moving to AWS Can Help Lower Carbon Footprint

AWS is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud offering, with millions of global users depending on it every day. To build a sustainable business for our customers and for the world we all share, we’re designing data centers that provide the efficient, resilient service our customers expect while minimizing our environmental footprint—and theirs.

Studies by 451 Research have shown that AWS’ infrastructure is 3.6 times more energy efficient than the median of U.S. enterprise data centers surveyed and up to five times more energy efficient than the average in Europe. 451 Research also found that AWS can lower customers’ workload carbon footprints by nearly 80% compared to surveyed enterprise data centers, and up to 96% once AWS is powered with 100% renewable energy—a target we’re on path to meet by 2025.

Amazon is building a sustainable business for you and the planet

At Amazon, we are committed to and invested in sustainability because it’s a win all around—it’s good for the planet, for business, for our customers, and for our communities. We co-founded The Climate Pledge, which is a commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040—10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement with the goal of building a cross-sector community of companies, organizations, individuals, and partners working together to address the climate crisis and solve the challenges of decarbonizing our economy.

Here are some of the way we are helping accelerate sustainability and the energy transition:

Clean Energy Accelerator

AWS Clean Energy Accelerator

Inaugurated in 2021, the Clean Energy Accelerator was AWS’s first accelerator program focused on fostering innovation and rapid growth of clean energy technology, which is needed to address the global climate crisis. Through two previous programs, the Clean Energy Accelerator has influenced over $207M in seed funding for clean energy and climate technology startups. In addition, 12 pilot projects have been initiated as a result of engagements fostered by the Clean Energy Accelerator.
